CCSO release – On 12-24-18 at approximately 1134 hours, the Oregon State Police, Coos County Sheriff’s Office, and the Charleston Fire Department responded to the area of the Charleston Bridge regarding the report of a male subject having jumped from the bridge into the bay. The Charleston bridge operator reported seeing the male subject exit a newer gray/brown pickup truck, step over the hand rail of the bridge and jump. A female subject and another unknown subject associated with the gray/brown truck waited nearby for several minutes before leaving the area in the pickup. The male subject was not observed getting out of the water. A search of the shore and water way was conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard, the North Bend Fire Department, the Charleston Fire Department, the Oregon State Police, and the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, but the male subject was not located. Further investigation is underway to identify the persons involved in this incident.
