The Governor of Colorado, John Hickenlooper, has issued a letter of support for the Jordan Cove Energy Project, the proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal on Coos Bay’s North Spit. The $7.5 billion project is still undergoing the lengthy federal and state permit process. In his letter to federal officials, Governor Hickenlooper wrote that he would like the project to move forward, and that it would directly link Colorado’s natural gas supply with new energy markets around the Pacific Rim. The LNG would be piped along the Ruby Pipeline in Wyoming to Malin, Oregon, just south of Klamath Falls. That’s where the proposed Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline would begin that would connect with the Jordan Cove Energy Project. In late 2013, 12 members of Congress from Wyoming, Utah and Colorado asked the U.S. Dept. of Energy to approve their application to export natural gas out of Oregon. Indian tribes from those same states also reportedly wrote a letter adding their support to export gas from Coos Bay. Oregon’s Governor Kate Brown has been urged to support the project, but has yet to make a statement or a stand.
