Both Marist Catholic & Cottage Grove were eliminated from the OSAA/OnPoint Community Credit Union Baseball playoffs during the 4A Play-In Round Thursday, May 16. The Spartans (13-11) fell 4-3 at Phoenix, while the Lions (11-14) lost at Philomath/Alsea 4-2. The remaining District 4 teams are in the First Round Wednesday, May 22, 4:30 p.m. Runner-up Elmira (15-9) is at Banks (23-3) & league champ Junction City (20-5) hosts Phoenix (16-11). In the 4A softball playoffs, third-place Elmira (17-9) bounced visiting Newport 11-1 (5) Friday in the Play-In Round to advance to the First Round to play at Banks (19-6), Wednesday, May 22, 4 p.m. Also in the First Round, league champ Marist Catholic (23-3) hosts Ontario (15-10) and second-place Junction City (23-4) hosts Astoria (16-7).
