Oregon softball head coach Melyssa Lombardi announced a second addition to the Ducks’ 2019 pitching staff on Friday, signing left-handed pitcher Maddie MacGrandle. A Frisco, Texas, native, MacGrandle will be eligible to play immediately for Oregon as a sophomore after spending her freshman season at Texas A&M. “Maddie is a crafty lefty who does a great job of changing speeds and using the entire strike zone,” said Lombardi. “She’s a really tough competitor on the mound, and I also like that she can contribute offensively from the left side of the plate. I’ve known Maddie for a long time which I think will help her transition quickly, and I know that I am getting a quality young woman who can really help this program.” “I met coach Lombardi when I was in eighth grade and have followed her success,” said MacGrandle. “I chose Oregon because I couldn’t have picked a better coach to play for. I can’t wait to be in Eugene helping the Ducks win games!” MacGrandle appeared in eight games, making seven starts, for Texas A&M in 2018, going 5-1 with a 2.60 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 35 innings. She allowed only five runs through the first 28.1 innings of her career (1.24 ERA), including a complete-game win against Iowa with six strikeouts. MacGrandle had success in her lone appearance against a Pac-12 foe, allowing just one run with six strikeouts across six innings in a 5-1 win over California. She excelled in the classroom as well during her freshman season, earning NFCA all-American scholar athlete honors.
