From, April 24 to June 27, 2015 Coos Art Museum will be exhibiting the Expressions West 2015 juried painting competition. Artists from thirteen western states were invited to compete in this annual event. Juror Brian Hoover selected sixty-one paintings by forty-four artists residing in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, New Mexico, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. The opening reception for Expressions West 2015 will take place on April 24 from 5 to 7 pm. The public is invited to attend. We anticipate that many of the participating artists will also be in attendance. An awards ceremony begins at 6 PM and Brian Hoover will present the prize awards for the competition. The three prizes are $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place and $250 for the third place award. Honorable mentions will also be announced during the ceremony. We welcome all to come meet the artists and juror at the opening reception. Juror Brian Hoover is a Professor of painting and printmaking at Southern Utah University. He received his art training at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Kutztown University and the State University of New York. Hoover has had one-person exhibitions at the Springville Museum of Art in Springville, Utah and at Penn State University in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was the winner of the 2009 Expressions West exhibition at Coos Art Museum with his painting Girl with Fantastic Hat IX Saturnalia.
