CFPA release – Firefighters from CFPA responded to a fire on Lampa Lane west of Coquille at about 4:30 p.m. yesterday. The fire was stopped at 4.3 acres. Firefighting resources from CFPA, Coquille, Arago, and Myrtle Point rural fire departments worked with the assistance of three helicopters to halt the spread of the fire. The fire resulted from a burn pile that had held heat buried in the ground since April. Dry conditions combined with wind and topography pushed the fire until control efforts were able to stop its forward advancement. This fire is a reminder to residents that burned large piles this spring to check them and make sure that they are not still holding heat.
