On September 27, 2018 at approximately 2:40 PM. Oregon State Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Hwy 20 and Hwy 395C – two miles east of Burns. Investigation shows that a 2000 Mercury Sable, operated by Judy Patterson (78) of Hines, OR,  was traveling southbound on Hwy 395C when she failed to stop at the stop sign with the intersection of US Hwy 20.  Her vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a westbound 2015 White Chevrolet Suburban, operated by  Amanda Hoyt (43) of Burns, OR.  Patterson and her passenger, Charles Thompson (83) of Hines, OR, both sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. Hoyt was taken to Harney District Hospital in Burns by Harney District EMS where she was treated and released for injuries. The eastbound lane of US Hwy 20 was closed for approximately 2.5 hours.
