On January 3, 2018, at approximately 10:35 AM, Oregon State Troopers from the Gold Beach Worksite and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a report of a male subject who had been swept off some rocks by waves into the Pacific Ocean near Indian Sands Trail. The location is near the city of Brookings, Oregon, off of Highway 101 near Milepost 348 in Curry County. The victim has been identified as 21-year old Christopher M. KARECK by a traveling companion. KARECK is from Sparks, Nevada. The search effort, which is still underway, is expected to continue until sunset or when conditions no longer safely allow.
