Marshfield’s girls took first and the Pirate boys third at the 2017 Evergreen Bank Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament in the Grants Pass area Thursday through Saturday. The featured game was the No. ranked Lady Pirates (11-1) and the No. 2 ranked Hidden Valley Mustangs (9-2). Marshfield led from start to finish in winning 50-40. Tess Garrett was named to the All-Tourney team. The Lady Pirates beat North Valley 51-22 Thursday in the first round at North Valley HS. On Friday, Marshfield downed South Umpqua 54-29 to reach the title game at Hidden Valley HS Saturday afternoon. The Pirate boy’s came-from-behind to beat Scappoose 74-71 in two overtimes to capture third. Marshfield beat Sutherlin 56-25 in the first round Thursday, but lost to host North Valley 35-30 in the semi-finals before downing the Indians on Saturday afternoon at Hidden Valley HS. The boys (7-4) are scheduled to play at Philomath Wednesday night, and both teams are slated to participate in the Far West – Skyline Crossover Tournament back at North & Hidden Valley high schools Friday and Saturday.
