Top-ranked and unbeaten North Bend claimed the 2016 4A Far West League football title Friday night inside Pete Susick Stadium with a come-from-behind 39-20 win over Marshfield at Coos Bay.  The Pirates end up in third place and South Umpqua second after the Lancers beat their county rivals Douglas, 42-12 at Tri-City.  The top three teams qualify for the upcoming playoffs.  In the other final regular season FWL game at Florence, Siuslaw edged Brookings-Harbor 14-13.  Final FWL standings:  NB (5-0), SU (4-1), MHS (3-2), Doug (2-3), Siu (1-4), BH (0-5).

Four football teams from the Far West League advanced to post season play.  League champ North Bend gets a bye from the “Play-In” round as the No. 1 ranked 4A team.  So. Umpqua also received a bye as the No. 7 ranked team.  No. 8 Marshfield will host No. 26 Sweet Home in the “Play-In” round, while No. 19 Douglas travels to No. 14 Scappoose.  According to the OSAA website, “the matchups will take place on or before Saturday, October 29.”  Marshfield opened last year’s post season run with a 44-14 win over Sweet Home in Coos Bay.  According to the MHS Activities Calendar, the game is already set for Friday, 7 p.m., inside Pete Susick Stadium.
