Bay Area Kiwanis unveiled their brand-new custom-built portable commercial stainless steel BBQ grill at the 59th annual Wave Young Salmon BBQ fundraiser on August 7th. The new grill is a considerable upgrade from the old charcoal steel box grills the club used in the past. Several club members and local journeymen, under the direction of member Scott Traylor, designed and built this new grill with contributions from local businesses including Ken Ware, McGowne Ironworks, API Automotive Paint, Action Trophies, Waterfall Clinic and Bennetti’s Italian Restaurant. The club is still looking for donors, sponsors, and advertisers to help offset costs. The BBQ will also be available, manned by Kiwanians, for special community events. Some specifications of the new equipment include: Stainless Steel counters and food prep space; 6 Liquid propane tanks (7 gallons each) to easily last for any event; 14’of cooking area – 3 grills, individually controlled, on each side of trailer; 2 hand washing hot water sinks with soap dispenser & paper towel stands; Retractable trailer tongue for all around trailer access; 4 stabilizing jacks for trailer leveling; 2 detachable wheeled jacks for easy maneuvering of trailer; Centrally located electrical outlet for food warmers; Banner and ad space. The BBQ grill makes it possible for the club to host fundraisers to support projects benefitting the community. Some Kiwanian projects include an annual shoe giveaway for disadvantaged kids, scholarships for Coos County high school graduates, sponsorship of a team at the OSAA annual Boys and Girls 3A Championship Basketball Tournament, providing firewood to those in need, and many more. The club will be using the new grill at the upcoming Blackberry Arts Festival on August 27th & 28th in downtown Coos Bay.
