Far West baseball league leader North Bend handed Brookings-Harbor (5-2, 9-4) two losses during a doubleheader sweep at Clyde Allen Field in North Bend Friday.  The Bulldogs (8-0, 8-7), who have now won eight games in a row after opening the season with seven straight losses, won 1-0 and 6-3.  In other FWL games Friday, Douglas (3-4, 4-9) and South Umpqua (3-5, 6-8) split.  The Trojans won the opener 8-2 at Tri City, while the Lancers took the second game 12-2.  Marshfield (2-7, 3-12) and Sutherlin (1-7, 1-13) split their doubleheader.  The Bulldogs won the opener 9-5, while the Pirates captured the second game 14-3.  Siuslaw (5-2, 7-4) had a bye.

First place South Umpqua (8-0, 10-3) gave itself a little breathing room in the Far West League softball race Friday with a doubleheader sweep of former second place Douglas (5-2, 8-3), 7-3 and 8-3.  Brookings-Harbor (6-1, 12-2) leap frogs the Trojans into second place with a sweep of visiting North Bend (1-7, 2-10), 10-0, 8-1.  Marshfield (5-4, 7-7) took two from visiting Sutherlin (0-8, 0-15) 10-0 and 9-3 in Coos Bay.  Siuslaw (2-5, 2-7) had a bye.

Pre Rotary Meet
Twenty-five high school track teams participated in the 14th annual Prefontaine Rotary Invitational at Pete Susick Stadium in Coos Bay Saturday.  Two meet records fell during the full day of competition.  Marshfield’s Adryanna Chavez set one of the new marks in the Triple Jump (36-11.25), while Newport sprinter Rachel Vinjamuri reset the top time in the 200 (25.72).  The junior was named the meet’s outstanding runner after also winning the 100 (12.66) and the 400 (58.79).  Chavez was named the outstanding jumper.  The outstanding thrower was Crook County’s Hannah Troutman who won the shot put (39-11), and the javelin (129-10).  She also placed eighth in the discus (98-06).  The top male runner was Marshfield’s Colby Gillette who won the 3000 (9:15.70) and was second in the Prefontaine Mile (4:36.66).  Coquille’s Brandon Bowen, who won the shot put (49-11.75) and was second in the discus (136-03) as the top male thrower.  Top jumper was North Bend’s Drew Matthews, who won the long jump (20-11.75) and was second in the triple jump (41-04.25).  First place for NBHS:  100 Matt Woods 11.41; 200 Wyatt Cunningham 23.13; 110H Cameron Lucero 15.93; 4X100 Relay (Luke Lucero, Matt Woods, Drew Matthews, Wyatt Cunningham) 43.67; TJ Drae Stark 41-09.25; PV McKenzie Gauntz 10-00; LJ Brianna Cole 16-00.  MHS winners:  PV Hunter Drops 14-00; 3000 Shaylen Crook 10:22; 100H Isabel Groth 16.56; 4X100 Relay (Isabel Groth, Adryana Chavez, Hailee Woolsey, Brittany Cook) 50.84.
