OSP Impounds
Vehicles impounded by the Oregon State Police. June 8, 4:05 p.m., Hwy. 101, mp 240, NB, Coos Bay, “Operator stopped for equipment violation. Consent search revealed marijuana in the passenger’s pocket, unprescribed prescription pills and an open container of alcohol in the driver’s purse.” Forty-four year old Patti Ann Lynn, Coos Bay, cited for No Oregon Operator’s License and Open Container of Alcohol. She was issued criminal citations for Fail to Carry Operator’s License and Possession of Prescription-Controlled Substance. The passenger, 39-year old Aurelio Jose Garcia Jr., Coos Bay, cited for Possession of Less than an Oz. Marijuana, and Open Container. The silver/aluminum Ford Thunderbird was impounded. June 9, 4:43 p.m., S. Schoneman & Michigan Ave. “A vehicle was stopped for expired registration was towed and impounded after an investigation revealed that the driver was unlicensed and uninsured.” Forty-eight year old Roderick Allen Wilson, Charleston, was cited and the blue Dodge Caravan was impounded.

Distracted Driver
A red Kia Sport wrecked June 11, 1:04 p.m., Hwy. 101, sb, mp 231. According to an OSP report, “a crash occurred after driver #1 reportedly became distracted by something flying into her window in front of her. She reportedly swatted at the bug/object, which caused her to lose control of her vehicle. She began to leave the highway, over-corrected went into the oncoming lane, and over-corrected again. Vehicle #1 tipped over onto the driver’s side, rotated and slid in the southbound lane to its position of rest in the southbound lane.” Sixty-seven year old Karen Irene Downing incurred scrapes and abrasions. Traffic was backed up due to lane closure approximately one mile in both directions. Hauser Fire and North Bay Fire assisted.

Illegal Passing
A 56-year old North Bend male was issued citations June 11, 2:13 p.m., on Hwy. 101, mp 230, sb, for Unsafe Passing on the Right and Unlawfully Opening and Leaving Open Vehicle Door. Charges of Disorderly Conduct II, Menacing, Reckless Driving, and Recklessly Endangering Another will be referred to the District Attorney. According to an OSP report, Kirk Matthew Wilson was cited. “A rollover crash blocked the SB lane. Traffic was merged into the left lane of SB US-101 north of the crash. Wilson drove in th e right lane to pass the line of traffic. Two vehicles separately attempted to inhibit Wilson from completing the unsafe pass on the right. Wilson threatened the second vehicle and opened his door while driving to make physical threats against the other driver. A portion of that was captured on video recording by a witness. A third vehicle got in front of Wilson to inhibit his unlawful passing. A witness stopped at the crash scene to report the incident. I stopped Wilson at the Veteran’s Memorial. Approximately 9+ witnesses stopped in to make a report against Wilson.” The vehicle involved was a teal colored Ford Ranger.

Bridge Accident
Traffic was tied up on the McCullough Bridge over the Coos Bay Channel June 12, 2:23 p.m., due to a multi-vehicle accident. According to an OSP report, “vehicle #3 (5 occupants) stopped in the SB lane of Hwy. 101 on the middle of the span on the McCullough Bridge as traffic in front of him had stopped. Vehicle #2 (2 occupants) had stopped behind vehicle #3, vehicle #1 (12 occupants) failed to stop in time to avoid crashing into the rear of vehicle #2. The impact caused vehicle #2 to move forward and crash into the back of the vehicle #3. All occupants denied receiving injuries.” Vehicle #1 & #2 were towed, while vehicle #3 was driveable. Vehicle #1 driver was warned for Following Too Close. The drivers were from California, Colorado, and North Bend.
