A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck in the Springfield area of Oregon on Saturday, July 4. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake occurred at 8:42 a.m., and was located nine-mile east to northeast of Springfield in the Mohawk Valley area near Marcola. Fire crews from the Springfield Fire Dept. patrolled neighborhoods in the area to assess any structural damage that may have occurred to homes and buildings. A 3.0-magnitude quake also shook the Cape Mendocino area of Northern California where two fault lines begin the run parallel with the Oregon Coast. The quake was recorded at 7:08 p.m., and was located 32-miles south to southwest of Eureka, CA. It was followed by a 2.8-magnitude quake at 3 p.m. in the same area.
