His name won’t appear on the ballot, but Coos Bay businessman Steve Schneiderman is mounting a write-in campaign for Position 4 on the Coos Bay School District’s Board of Education. Schneiderman, who owns Marshfield Bargain House, recently served as President of the Bay Area Rotary Club, and is the current President of the Marshfield Booster Club, enters the race on the heels of a controversy that has produced a large rift throughout the District over Superintendent Dawn Granger’s recent move to place MHS Athletic Director and Dean of Students, Greg Mulkey, on “leave.” That decision led to more than 50 complaints to be filed with the school board regarding Granger. Mulkey will have a personnel hearing on April 29, 5:30 p.m., at the Milner Crest Education Center, where he previouly served as principal when the facility was an elementary school. His hearing will be closed, unless Mulkey asks for it to be open. The 50 complaints filed during Monday’s School Board meeting, were read by School Board President Jill Christiana, who holds Position 4, and is running for re-election.
