The City will be closing several facilities on September 14th, for the Coos Bay / Volunteer Church Service Project. Approximately 150 volunteers broken up into several work groups will be dispatched throughout the City of Coos Bay performing maintenance task on different facilities. These tasks include landscaping, painting, forestry, trail construction, and bark mulch placement. The purpose of closing these facilities is for the safety of the community, volunteers, and city staff who are performing the work. This very impressive major event is being done by 150 volunteers for the community. The estimated volunteer contribution pencils out to 1,050 hours equaling $105,000 in labor services which does not included equipment cost donated to perform some of these tasks!  Way to go Community…. Below is a list of facility closures affected by the event, date, and times: Mingus Park (10th Street between 8th Terrace and Commercial on September 14th from 7am – 3pm); John Topits Park (Empire Lake access to the trails will be limited while chipping & brushing operation is underway.  If a trail is closed, please do not enter on September 14th from 7am – 3pm); City Board Walk (Will be closed September 14th from 7am – 3pm) Volunteers and city staff will be painting facilities.  Should you have questions, please feel free to contact Public Works and Development Department, Randy Dixon, Operations Administrator at (541) 269-1181 or email: rdixon@coosbay.org
