Libby & Cape Arago, CCSO release – On February 1st, 2019 at 12:49 PM, a Deputy Sheriff with the Coos County Sheriff’s Office observed suspicious activity. As he passed the Portside restaurant a male and female were getting in a small passenger vehicle. The male observed the Deputy driving by and looked away quickly in an attempt to conceal his identity. The Deputy went around the block and observed the vehicle traveling South bound on Boat Basin Road. The vehicle stopped at Davey Jones and the Deputy pulled off the road. While the Deputy was sitting on the side of the road, he observed the male peak around the corner of Davey Jones locker and see the Deputy then go back out of site. Shortly after, the vehicle pulled out of the Davey Jones Locker parking lot. The Deputy followed the vehicle and noted a traffic violation, which prompted the Deputy to initiate a traffic stop at Troller and Cape Arago Highway. During the contact, the driver disclosed the passenger’s name as 41 year old Paul Thomas. Dispatch advised that Thomas had a warrant out for his arrest for a Violation of a Restraining Order. Thomas had left the scene when the stop was initiated. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center also advised the Deputy there was a valid restraining order in place that prohibited Paul Thomas from having any contact with the driver of the vehicle. The driver was driving with a valid driver’s license and was let go. K9 Odin and his handler were called to the scene and a perimeter was set up. K9 Odin tracked Paul Thomas to location where he was taken into custody by the Oregon State Police without incident. This marks K9 Odin’s 79th capture. Paul Thomas was transported to the Coos County Jail for a warrant charging Violation of a Restraining Order and a new charge of Violation of a Restraining Order. Paul Thomas was lodged and his bail was set at $15,000.
