A Curry County Sheriff’s deputy shucked his gear on the beach and ran into the Pacific Ocean Monday evening, June 2, to rescue a 14-year old boy who was caught in a rip tide off of Harris Beach near Brookings.  The deputy, Terry Brown, reached the youth, but both couldn’t return to shore because of the rough surf.  It took rescue personnel 45-minutes to reach the two and safely return them to the beach.  Both were transported to Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City in critical condition.  The two were expected to recover from their hypothermic conditions.
