Delicious Dungeness crab and finely crafted wooden boats will be the star attractions at the upcoming Depoe Bay Crab Feed & Classic Wooden Boat Show. The event will be held at the harbor on Saturday and Sunday, April 18-19. Thousands of pounds of locally caught whole Dungeness crab will be cooked to perfection on the spot by volunteers at the annual feast, which takes place at the Depoe Bay Community Hall. The Chamber of Commerce hosts the non-profit event, which has become a favorite coastal tradition for residents and visitors alike. Dungeness crab dinners will be served at the Community Hall on both Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19. Indoor and outdoor dining options and a beer garden will be available. Whole crab meals will be $25 and half crab meals $20. It’s a true bargain for a complete meal that includes coleslaw, garlic bread and a beverage. This will be the 21st year for the Classic Wooden Boat Show at “the world’s smallest harbor”. Dozens of exhibits will feature hand-crafted vessels both vintage and modern from across the Northwest. Always a favorite of the show is the model boat building booth, which provides both young and old the opportunity to build their own boat. Both admission and the model boat building demonstration are free. Hundreds of colorful bathtub ducks will be released to race into the harbor Sunday afternoon for the Ducky Derby. Depoe Bay’s U.S. Coast Guard station plans to open its doors to tours of its patrol and rescue boats stationed in “the world’s smallest harbor”. If you’ve ever wondered what its like to be on the Pacific with the Coast Guard, this is your opportunity! Thanks to a resident pod of gray whales, Depoe Bay enjoys near year-round whale watching and has become known as “Oregon’s whale watching capitol”. At the Whale Watching Center park rangers are ready to help spot gray whales. The center is open daily from 10 AM to 4 PM and admission is free.
