HS Pre Run
Timothy Johnson from Roseburg was the individual high school champion at the Prefontaine High School Memorial Run Saturday at Coos Bay. The senior toured the 5K course in 16:25.3, nearly seven-seconds faster than sophomore Carson Buergey (16:32.0) of Thurston. Crook Co. won the 17-team race with 55-points, followed by Arcata with 83, and Roseburg with 104. Marshfield led by sophomore Jaxson Stovall’s fifth place (16:44.4) finished tenth with 290-points. Pirate junior Elijah Cellura was second for Marshfield in 32nd (18:02.7). North Bend came in 13th (355-pts.), while Bandon was 14th (355). Junior Matix Wolfe led North Bend in 48th (18:35.2), followed by senior Gavin Schmidt 52nd (18:40.7). Sylvia Eckman, of Roseburg, won the girl’s portion of the Memorial Run in 18:46.5. Grants Pass won the team title with 53-points, followed by Roseburg with 68, and Bandon with 93. North Bend was fifth with 117-points and Marshfield tenth with 255. Sophomore Ellie Massey led North Bend in ninth place (21:14.6), followed by freshman Bryleigh Mead in 11th (21:18.7). Sophomore Marley Petrey lead Bandon in 12th (21:19.5), while Marshfield’s girls were led by sophomore Riley Mullanix in 42nd (23.49.0). Both Marshfield and North Bend will next compete in the Northwest Classic at Lane CC, Eugene, Saturday, Sept. 23.

Marshfield graduate Alexander Garcia Silver was the overall winner in the 42nd Annual Prefontaine Memorial Run at Coos Bay Saturday. More than 950 participated in the overall annual event. The 18-year old ran 31:31.1 over the 10K course the legendary Steve Prefontaine trained on for many years while attending Marshfield High School. Marisa Cortright (31) of Salem won the women’s portion in 39:20.4.
