$5.5 Million in 15-Years, Feb. 26

The Coquille Tribal Community Fund awarded nearly $400,000 to qualifying non-profit organizations during a luncheon Thursday, Feb. 25, at the Mill Casino/Hotel/RV Park in North Bend. Ninety-six groups shared in the money, the largest ever for the Community Fund. Since the Fund began in 2002, nearly $5.5 million has been spread over 656 grants. The largest amount granted this year was $33,000 to the Southwestern Oregon Community College Foundation, which is actually the first of a three-year commitment towards the college’s Health & Science Building project. The total commitment will be $100,000. The Community Fund actually encompasses five service districts for the Coquille Tribe: Coos, Curry, Douglas, Lane and Jackson counties. All of the service districts were represented at the luncheon. The second highest amount awarded went to the Friends of the South Slough, $20,000 for the renovation of the Fredrickson Barn/Shed.
