Over 150 Reedsport and Elkton elementary school students will participate in the 70th annual Lower Umpqua Tree Plant on the morning of Tuesday, April 7. Fifth and sixth grade students will learn about forestry and land management while planting Douglas-fir seedlings. The Lower Umpqua Tree Plant is the longest continuous tree planting in the United States. The tree plant will take place on private timber lands located 11.5 miles up Camp Creek Road, off of Loon Lake Road, east of Reedsport, Oregon. Wednesday, April 8 is set aside as an alternate date for the tree plant in case of rain. The Umpqua Tree Plant is hosted by Roseburg Resources Company, Oregon Department of Forestry, Coos Forest Protective Association, Douglas County Forestry Department and the Bureau of Land Management.
