Marshfield’s boys took first place at the 4A District 4 Swim Championships Saturday, Cottage Grove. The Pirate girls were fifth, but the two teams combined to take first place. The team of Jack Waddington, Aaron Hutchins, Markus Kliewer and Trey Kirk won the 200 Medley Relay 1:51.32; Kliewer won the 100 Fly 1:01.64; Hutchins won the 100 Breast 1:07.32; Hutchins, Kliewer, Waddington & Kirk teamed up to win the 400 Free Relay 3:37.00. Marshfield’s girls 200 Medley Relay team of Kally Haynes, Isabelle Hale, Allison Wright & Nyssa Haynes qualified for the State Meet as did the boy’s team with the 3rd seed. Kirk is seeded 6th in the 200 Free & Quinton Kloster 10th; Allison Wright 6th seed 100 Fly; Kliewer 9th seed in the 100 Fly; Haynes 12th seed 500 Free; Kirk 8th & Kliewer 10th seeds in 500 Free; the team of Trevor Robbins, Kloster, Waddington & Hutchins 3rd seed in 200 Free Relay; Wright 9th & Haynes 10th seeds in 100 Back; Kloster 11th seed in 100 Back; Hutchins 5th & Waddington 6th seeds in 100 Breast; and, the team of Hutchins, Kliewer, Waddington, & Kirk 3rd seed 400 Free Relay. State is Saturday, Feb. 19, Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center in Beaverton.

Marshfield’s boys and girls swept visiting Elmira in a 4A District 4 basketball doubleheader at the Pirate Palace in Coos Bay Tuesday night. The Lady Pirates won 40-11 and the boys won 69-34. The Lady Pirates (6-3, 16-7) have one more game on the regular season schedule, at league leader Junction City Friday. The boys’ team (7-1, 19-4) has a makeup game at Siuslaw Thursday and then ends the regular season at JC on Friday.

North Bend lost a 5A Midwestern League basketball doubleheader to Churchill Tuesday. The girls fell 48-28 at home while the boys lost 85-26 at Churchill in Eugene. North Bend’s girls (5-8, 11-11) are scheduled to host Crater Friday, 5:15 p.m., while the boys (0-13, 2-20) take on the Comets at 6:45 p.m.
