South Coast Payroll Employment Up by 250 Jobs over the Year – Coos County total payroll employment fell by 80 jobs in April. The only notable employment increase was in leisure and hospitality, up by 80 jobs. Private educational and health services (-30), and transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-20) were the private-sector industries with declines in April. Government employment decreased by 100 jobs over the month with a loss of 120 jobs in local government education offset by a gain of 30 in local government excluding education and tribal. Coos County payroll employment rose by 260 jobs over the past year. Gains were posted in leisure and hospitality (+180), other services (+50), and wholesale trade (+20). Industries with estimated job losses over the year included retail trade (-80), and professional and business services (-70). Industries with losses of 20 jobs over the year were mining and logging, financial activities, and private education and health services. Government employment climbed by 210 jobs with gains in local government excluding education and tribal (+110), Indian tribal (+60), and state government (+40). Curry County payroll employment gained 30 jobs in April. Leisure and hospitality (+30), and local government excluding education services (+20) showed employment gains over the month. Private education and health services employment slipped by 20 jobs. Over the past year, Curry County payroll employment was little changed. Trade, transportation, and utilities employment lost an estimated 40 jobs. Employment gains were seen in health care (+30) and local government excluding educational services (+40).
