Myrtle Point’s Mason Detzler won the OSAA 1A State Championship in the Shot Put Thursday at Hayward Field, Eugene with a mark of 51-05.75. Nearly four-feet further than second-place. Bandon freshman Caitlyn Michalek was third in the 2A Javelin (116-09). Another Tiger freshman Marley Petrey won the 2A Long Jump (16-08.75). Coquille junior Callie Millet won the 3A Javelin (125-09), while Red Devil teammate senior Trinidy Blanton was second (116-11). Coquille sophomore Holli Vigue won the 3A Discus (125-09) and Red Devil sophomore Melanie Lambson was third in the Long Jump (16-02.25). Bandon’s Danielle McLain was third in the 3000 (11:11.23). Coquille girls lead the 3A team competition with 41-points after the first day and Bandon leads the girl’s 2A with 26-points. The 4A/5A/6A teams begin today, 9 a.m., with the 3000-meter finals. The 1A/2A/3A portion of the state championships will continue with finals this afternoon at Hayward Field. Results can be followed on the OSAA.org website.
