Arson Charge, Coquille
CCSO release – Date / Time: June 30th, 2023 @ 9:05 p.m.; Case Number(s): 2023-00020443; Classification: Arson I; Location: Valley View Road, Coquille, Oregon 97423; Suspect(s): Sarah Y. Latimer (41). Myrtle Point woman arrested for arson after a reported structure fire on Valley View Road near Coquille. On June 30th, 2023, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call of a fully engulfed structure on Valley View Road near Coquille. Coquille Fire & Police responded immediately. A short time later, Coquille Fire called for a deputy to respond. Sgt. Slater and Deputy Francis responded to investigate the call along with Coquille Sgt. D. Miller. During the course of the investigation Sgt. Slater identified Sarah Y. Latimer (41) as a person of interest in the fire. After interviewing several witnesses, the homeowner and Mrs. Latimer, she was ultimately arrested on the charge of Arson I. Sarah Y. Latimer (41) was transported to the Coos County Jail, where she was booked on the charge of Arson I and remains in custody. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office would like to acknowledge the fast response from the Coquille Fire Department, Myrtle Point Fire Department, and Coos Forrest Protective Agency. The assistance provided by the Coquille Police Department is also very appreciated.

Assault Rusty Rd., Bandon
CCSO release – Date / Time: June 30th, 2023 at 10:57 p.m. ; Case Number(s): 2023-00020456; Classification: Assault IV (D); Location: Rusty Road, Bandon, Oregon 97411; Suspect(s): Cody A. Mohlin (25); Man arrested near Bandon after a report of a disturbance on Rusty Road. On June 30th, 2023, at 10:57 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call about a disturbance in progress on Rusty Road near Bandon. Bandon Police, along with Sgt. Slater and Deputy Francis responded to the location. Upon arrival, Deputy Francis had to clear for another emergent call. Sgt. Slater spoke with all parties at the location including Cody A. Mohlin (25) of Bandon. After an investigation, Mr. Mohlin was arrested on the charge of Assault IV Domestic. Cody A. Mohlin (25) was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and remains in custody.

Harassment Astor Ln., Bandon
CCSO release – Date / Time: June 30th, 2023 at 11:45 p.m.; Case Number(s): 2032-00020457; Classification: Domestic Harassment; Location: Astor Lane, Bandon, Oregon; Suspect(s): Taylor C. White (23). Disturbance call leads to arrest of Bandon man. On June 30th, 2023, at 11;45 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call of a disturbance in progress located on Astor Lane near Bandon Oregon. Deputy Francis and a Bandon Police Officer had to clear from another disturbance call to respond for assistance. Upon arrival, Deputy Francis observed Taylor C. White (23) being physically subdued by a family member. After investigating and speaking with everyone involved, Deputy Francis arrested Taylor C. White (23) for Domestic Harassment. Mr. White was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and remains in custody.

Initiating a False Report
CCSO release – Date / Time: July 1, 2023, at 11:05 a.m.; Case Number(s): 2023-00020487; Classification: Initiating a False Police Report / Improper Use of Emergency Communications System; Location: West Howard Lane, Coos Bay, Oregon; Suspect(s): Robin R. Shook (64). Coos Bay man arrested after calling 911 and fabricating assault report. On July 1, 2023, at 11:05 a.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received a 911 call from Robin R. Shook (64) stating he was assaulted and needed police immediately on West Howard Lane near Coos Bay, Oregon. Sgt. J. Clayburn responded and contacted Mr. Shook. During an investigation, it was learned that Mr. Shook contacted law enforcement because he was being evicted and wanted to retaliate against his landlord. After the investigation by Sgt J. Clayburn, arrested Robin R. Shook (64) on charges of initiating a false police report and improper use of an emergency communications system. Mr. Shook was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and later released on his own recognizance.

Improper Use of Emergency Communications System
CCSO release – Date / Time: July 1, 2023, at 5:10 p.m.; Case Number(s): 2023-00020527; Classification: Improper Use of an Emergency Communications System; Location: West Howard Road, Coos Bay, Oregon; Suspect(s): Robin R. Shook (64). Coos Bay man continues to misuse the 911 reporting system and is arrested again. On July 1st, 2023, at 5:10 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call from Robin R. Shook (64) to express his displeasure with the Sheriff’s Office for being arrested earlier in the day for improper use of an emergency communications system. Sheriff’s Office dispatchers again advised Mr. Shook that the 911 lines were for emergencies only. Mr. Shook was less than polite and discontinued the call. Deputy H. Francis responded to Mr. Shook’s residence on West Howard Road near Coos Bay and spoke with him about the incident. After an investigation, Mr. Shook was arrested again for improper use of an emergency communications system. Robin R. Shook (64) was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and released on his own recognizance. It is essential to note that improper use of an emergency communications system is an (A) misdemeanor, NOT a person crime. This is also a mandatory release under Senate Bill 48.

Rollover Accident in Coos Bay
CBPD release – The Coos Bay Police Department (CBPD) responded to a one-vehicle rollover accident where a man was seriously injured. On July 1, 2023, at approximately 2:54 a.m., the North Coos 9-1-1 Center (NC-911) received a report of an accident in the area of the 1200 block of N. Bayshore Dr. The first report of the crash was via an automated 9-1-1 call from a cell phone, stating that the phone had been involved in a vehicle accident and providing location information. NC-911 dispatched police, fire, and medical personnel to the area. CBPD officers arrived and located the involved vehicle, a blue 1998 GMC pickup, and its driver, a 32-year-old North Bend man with serious injuries. The man had been the only occupant of the vehicle before being ejected during the rollover crash. Officers also found that prior to the rollover, the vehicle hit a mailbox and an additional vehicle in the 400 block of N. Bayshore Dr. and also damaged signage for the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). The cause of the crash is still under investigation. CBPD officers were able to notify a member of the man’s family of the accident, and he was transported from the scene by Bay Cities Ambulance. At this time, we will not be releasing the man’s name pending further family notifications. The CBPD would like to thank the Coos Bay Fire Department, Bay Cities Ambulance, and North Bend Police Department for their assistance.

Crash Fairview/Sumner Lane
CCSO release – Date / Time: July 1, 2023, at 5:30 p.m.; Case Number(s): 2023-00020531; Classification: Traffic Crash (Fire); Location: Fairview / Sumner Lane; Suspect(s): Unk. Crash on Fairview – Sumner Lane under investigation. On July 1, 2023, at 5:30 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call of a vehicle overturned on Fairview – Sumner Lane, which was fully engulfed in fire. Fairview Fire, Coos Forrest Protective Agency, and Coquille Ambulance personnel responded and quickly extinguished the blaze. Sgt. Slater with the Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene to investigate the incident. No one was located at the location of the crash, and the case remains under investigation. Thank you to the Fairview Fire Department and CFPA for their swift response to ensure the fire was contained and extinguished immediately. Menacing/Weapon
CCSO release – Date / Time: July 1, 2023, at 8:03 p.m.; Case Number(s): 2023-00020542; Classification: Menacing / Unlawful Use of a Weapon; Location: Merritt Road, Coos Bay, Oregon; Suspect(s): Grant C. Gulseth (54). Man shooting 12-gauge shotgun toward girlfriend ends with arrest. On July 1, 2023, at 8:03 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call from a woman stating she had been shot on Merritt Road just south of Coos Bay. Sgt. Slater responded to the location and contacted Grant C. Gulseth (54). Grant admitted to shooting his 12-gage shotgun at his girlfriend in the driveway while forcefully telling her to get off the property. The victim was located and confirmed Grant fired a single round towards her while telling her to get off the property. The victim was not injured and had only thought she had been shot after the round was fired. Grant C. Gulseth (54) was arrested on the charges of menacing and unlawful use of a weapon. Grant was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and remains in custody.

Assault with Vehicle at Lakeside
CCSO release – Date / Time: July 2nd, 2023, around 2:56 pm; Case Number(s): 202300020603; Classification: Assault 2-Domestic, Vehicular Assault, Reckless Driving; Location: North 15th Street in Lakeside; Suspect(s): Lori L. Koss (51). 51-year-old Lakeside woman arrested for domestic assault after hitting victim with her car. On July 2nd, 2023, around 2:56 pm, Coos County Dispatch Center received a call regarding a physical dispute between a male and female at a residence on North 15th Street in Lakeside, Oregon. Deputy J. Vinyard immediately responded to the area. Deputy J. Vinyard arrived at the location, where he met with Deputy B. Kent and OSP Trooper Waldrop. During the investigation, it was learned that Lori L. Koss (51) of Lakeside had struck the victim with her vehicle during a dispute which briefly trapped him against another car. Deputy Vinyard requested medical personnel to come to the location and treat the victim. After the investigation, Deputy Vinyard placed Lori Koss under arrest for Assault in the Second Degree-Domestic Violence, Vehicular Assault, and Reckless Driving. She was transported to the Coos County Jail, where she was booked and lodged. Lori Koss is being held without bail pending her arraignment.
