South Coast Payroll Employment Up by 860 Jobs over the Year – Oregon Employment Dept. Report – Coos County total payroll employment fell by 260 jobs in July. Industries with job gains in July included leisure and hospitality (+90), professional and business services (+50), construction (+30), and retail trade (+20). Transportation, warehousing, and utilities employment slipped by 40 jobs over the month. Government employment fell by 420 jobs in July, largely due to seasonally typical declines in local government education. Coos County payroll employment rose by 680 jobs over the past year. Gains were estimated in leisure and hospitality (+280), professional and business services (+160), construction (+80), and other services (+30). Industries with estimated job losses over the year included retail trade (-50), mining and logging (-50), and manufacturing (-20). Government employment climbed by 100 jobs with gains in Indian tribal (+70), local government excluding education and tribal (+40), and state government (+10). Local education slipped by 20 jobs over the year. Curry County payroll employment gained 20 jobs in July. Leisure and hospitality (+90) added jobs, while government (-90) showed employment loss over the month. The government decline was in the local government education component. Over the past year, Curry County payroll employment added 180 jobs. Industries with notable estimated jobs gains included leisure and hospitality (+110), financial activities (+30), and health care (+30). On the other hand, a few industries showed jobs losses since July 2022 including construction (-30), manufacturing (-10), retail trade (-10), and professional and business services (-10). Government employment increased by 80 jobs, with local government excluding educational services up by 60 jobs, accounting for most of the gain.
