Is it a win-win situation? The Nancy Devereux Center, which assists homeless individuals in the Bay Area, is moving from its present location in Empire at Ocean Blvd. and Newmark Ave. to West Lockhart in Coos Bay adjacent to the Coalbank Village, the Bay Area’s homeless village. The move comes on the acceptance of $1.5 million in State funds from the $1.9 million awarded to the County from the Governor’s Office aimed at improving the homeless problem in rural Oregon. Tara Johnson, Devereux Center Executive Director says the move should help relieve some of the homeless pressure in the community. A bigger benefit is the location. The building will be leased from the city. It is larger than the Devereux Center’s current site and should enable the center to serve more on their waiting list.
