Deadline to Register to Vote, April 30

OR Secretary of State’s Office release – SALEM, OR — April 30 is the deadline to register to vote in the May primary election. It’s also the deadline to register with a political party ahead of the closed primaries. Voters can register or update their registration online at OregonVotes.gov until 11:59 p.m. on April 30. The Republican and Democratic parties have chosen to hold closed primaries, which means only registered members of the party will be able to vote in those primaries. All voters, regardless of party affiliation, will receive ballots with nonpartisan contests and ballot measures. Minor parties — like the Independent Party, Pacific Green Party, and No Labels Party — hold their own nominating process and their candidates will appear on the General Election ballot in November. “Oregonians are voters,” said Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade. “We’ve worked together to build the most convenient and secure voting system in the country, and that starts with registering to vote. Registration takes only a few minutes. If you haven’t already registered, or you want to update your voter registration, there’s no time like the present.” The Secretary of State’s 2024 Civic Engagement toolkit provides ready-to-use resources designed to promote voting in our communities. It includes social media posts, sample emails, and other valuable tools that are free to use without attribution. For more information, visit our website: OregonVotes.gov.
