It’s an annual event intended to recreate the required journey of many South Coast Native Americans back in the mid-1800s to a federal government Reservation on the Central Oregon Coast. Members of the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz will take turns walking, jogging and running the 234-miles between Siletz and the Rogue River at Gold Beach in memory of their ancestors. The 19th annual event begins at the Tribal Community Center in Siletz on Friday morning, Sept. 5, 8 a.m., and ends Sunday at Oak Flat on the Rogue River.
