Unemployment rate, Sept. 25

The unemployment rate for the five complete counties along the Oregon Coast for the month of August was slightly up from the previous month according to figures released by the Oregon Employment Dept. Still, the trend of being less than the year before continued in four of the five counties. In Coos Co. the jobless rate for August was 8.9%, that’s up from the 8.8% in July, but less than the 9.8% recorded for August 2013. Curry Co. was the only county on the Coast where the rate for August (10.7%) was higher than the figure in July (10.6%), and also higher than the year before (10.5%). In Lincoln Co. the unemployment rate last month was 7.7%, up from the 7.5% in July, but less than the 8.1% in August 2013. Tillamook Co. had a jobless rate of 6.5% in August, higher than the 6.4% in July, but down from the 7.1% of last year. Clatsop Co. continues to have the best rates on the Coast. In August 6.1%, up from the 6.0% in July, but less than the 6.7% in August 2013.
