Coos Co. Sheriff’s report, Oct. 9

Assault
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On 10/08/2014 at about 00:18 hours Coos County Sheriffs Deputies responded to a report of an assault at 61220 Old Wagon Road, Coos Bay. When Deputies arrived it was discovered that 32 year old Troy Far less of Coos Bay had cut his mother, 52 year old Debra Penas with a knife during an altercation between he and his brother, 28 year old Elton Alden. It was also learned that during the altercation Mr. Farless had strangled his brother Elton. Troy Farless was arrested and transported to the Coos County Jail where he was booked for one count of Assault II, 2 counts of Menacing, 2 counts of Reckless Endangering, Strangulation and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Ms. Penas declined medical initially but after deputies arrived medical was called in to treat her injury. She was transported to Bay Area Hospital by Bay Cities Ambulance.

Offensive Littering
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On 10/7/2014 at about 11:24 AM, a Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy, returning from a call drove past a parked vehicle at the David Dewitt Memorial along Highway 101, north of North Bend and saw someone throw a bag of trash from the vehicle onto the ground near the trash cans in the parking lot. The Deputy turned around and returned to the area to find four black trash bags discarded on the ground as the driver of the van was starting to leave. The Deputy stopped the man identified as Jeffrey Griswold, 43 years old, and investigated the incident. The Deputy attempted to issue a criminal citation for the littering in lieu of physical custody, and a warning for a second offense the Deputy observed, contingent on the man picking up the trash. Jeffrey Griswold refused to pick the trash up and instead locked himself inside of his van and started video recording the incident. After other officers responded to assist the Deputy a North Bend Police Officer were able to get the door to the van unlocked and Mr. Griswold was removed from the van and placed into custody. He was transported to the Coos County Jail and charged with Offensive Littering, Theft of Services and Resisting Arrest.

Reckless Driving
News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On 10/7/2014 at about 3:00 PM, a Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to a report of an impaired driver who had crashed his truck and travel trailer at the Osprey Point Trailer Park in Lakeside, Oregon. It was reported that the vehicle the subject was driving drove over a fire pit at the trailer park and also caused damage to the water and electrical hookups at the camping slot. It was reported that witnesses at the scene tried to stop the driver and vehicle from fleeing the scene but the driver and only occupant got out of the vehicle and fled on foot when 911 was called. When the deputy arrived on scene he located the driver, identified as 39 year old Tye Kusserow at the Lakeside Boat Docks at Tenmile County Park. It was reported that when the driver fled that he was bleeding very badly. When Mr. Kusserow was located he was found to have bit his tongue very badly and medical had to be called to treat him. Once medical arrived and treated Mr. Kusserow he was arrested and charged with Fail to Perform Duties of Driver, Reckless Driving and Criminal Mischief I and transported to the Coos County Jail and booked. The damage at the park was estimate to be over $1000.00.
