A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Newport rescued five people stuck on the rocks in Fogarty Creek near Depoe Bay Saturday, Oct. 11. The Dolphin crew arrived on scene and ferried the people to shore where they were met by ground crews including Coast Guard Station Depoe Bay crewmembers and the local fire department. None of them reported any injuries or medical concerns. Coast Guard Sector North Bend watchstanders received a call Saturday afternoon from Lincoln County dispatch reporting the people stranded on the rocks by an incoming tide and requested Coast Guard aviation support to reach them. Eight people were originally reported to be on the rocks, but three managed to swim to shore of their own accord prior to the Dolphin crew’s arrival. “This case illustrates the training and professionalism of our Coast Guard crews,” said Lt. j. g. Jesse Cremeans, a Dolphin pilot at Coast Guard Sector North Bend. “The air crew responded to the request from our partners and these five people were successfully removed from a potentially unsafe situation without any further incident.”
