DUII Arrest
A 66-year old Bandon male was charged with DUII and Failure to Maintain a Single Lane of Travel following a single-vehicle accident at Hwy. 101 and Lower Fourmile Lane, south of Bandon, Oct. 8, 4:21 p.m. According to an Oregon State Police report, the blue Ford Mustang was southbound on Hwy. 101 when the driver, Steven Lynn Nielsen failed to execute a right turn onto Fourmile Lane and ended up in a roadside ditch. “The operator denied injury but exhibited signs of impairment. He admitted to consuming a single beer.” He also failed a Field Sobriety Test and was placed into custody, transported to Bandon PD where he was cited and released to a licensed adult neighbor.
Impounded vehicles
The Oregon State Police impounded eight vehicles between Oct. 9 – Oct. 15 According to OSP reports: 7:32 a.m., Hwy. 101, mp 240, Coos Bay, a black VW Golf was stopped for an expired registration tag. The driver, 41-year old Fred Thomas Murphy, Powers, was found to have suspended driving privileges and was driving uninsured. The vehicle was impounded and the driver cited. Oct. 10 – A gold Honda Accord was impounded at 8:34 a.m., Hwy. 101 & Flanagan Road, Coos Bay, “operator stopped for speed violation, found to be driving uninsured.” Thirty-one year old Rachel Lea Crawford, Coos Bay, cited for Driving Uninsured and warned for Speed and Giving False Information Regarding Liability Insurance. Vehicle impounded. 7:42 p.m., So. Empire Blvd. & Michigan Ave., Coos Bay, blue Cadillac Deville stopped for Failure to Signal 100 feet Prior to a Right Turn and the Passenger Not Wearing her Safety Belt. Thirty-year old Brandon Michael Briggs, Coos Bay, “presented an expired Oregon identification card, and admitted that he did not have a driver’s license. He was cited for No Operator’s License and Driving Uninsured. The passenger, 36-year old Kimberly D. Roth, Coos Bay, was warned for Not Properly Wearing her Seatbelt and cited for Permitting Unlawful Operation of a Motor Vehicle. The vehicle was impounded. Oct. 11 – 1:34 p.m., white Dodge Ram 1500, stopped for registration violation. Driver, 33-year old Aaron Brian Connell, Coos Bay, found to be driving while suspended, uninsured and subject of a statewide misdemeanor warrant. He was transported to the Coos Co. Jail and the vehicle impounded. 3:25 p.m., Hwy. 101 & Hwy. 42, green Nissan Altima, “while on patrol I saw a vehicle operator who looked suspicious.” A records check revealed that 47-year old Steven Don McCrary was driving while suspended and “in possession of an open container of alcohol that he had been drinking and driving.” He was transported to the Coos Co. Jail at Coquille and the vehicle impounded. Oct. 12 – 8:13 a.m., Hwy. 101 & Hackett Ln., Coos Bay, light blue Ford Ranger, “operator stopped for VBR in foggy conditions, found to be driving while suspended.” Twenty-two year old Brandon Eric Wright, Coos Bay, issued criminal citations for Use of an Invalid License and Failure to Return Suspended License, also cited for DWS and warned for VBR. Vehicle impounded. Oct. 14 – 2:40 p.m., Hwy. 101 mp 239.5, Coos Bay, purple, mauve, Honda Civic, operated by 25-year old Lisa Ann Sims, Coos Bay, “operator was stopped for talking on her cell phone while driving. A pre-stop DMV records check of the registration showed that the vehicle had been sold and the insurance was terminated. Driver found to be suspended at a violation level with several additional pending suspensions. Sims was cited for DWS-Violation, Driving Uninsured, and Failure to File SR-22. Also warned for Cell Phone Use While Driving, Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicle and Failure to Return Suspended Driver’s License. Vehicle impounded. Oct. 15 – 2:24 p.m., Hwy. 240, mp 1.1, Coos Bay, green Cadillac Escalade stopped for tag violation. Thirty-six year old Danielle Franceen Ludtke, Coos Bay, found to be suspended and uninsured. Vehicle impounded.
DUII
A single-vehicle accident on Hwy. 101, mp 223, near the Lakeside turnoff, led to a DUII arrest on Oct. 10, 5:28 a.m. According to an OSP report, 70-year old Timothy Malcolm Nelson, Coos Bay, “missed the turnoff and drove on the wrong side of the guardrail approximately 100 yards before getting stock on the sand embankment. The operator was visibly intoxicated and arrested for DUII.” He was transported to North Bend PD for a breath test. The gray Nissan was towed.
Warrant arrest
According to an OSP report, a gray Honda Accord, stopped Oct. 12, 11:13 p.m., Newmark Ave. & No. Wall St., Coos Bay, for a lane change violation led to the arrest of the driver, 21-year old Jase Mikel Payne, Petersburg, was found to be wanted and transported to the Coos Co. Jail at Coquille. The vehicle was released to his girlfriend.
No Lights!
A silver/aluminum GMC DEN went off Hwy. 38, near mp 32.5, Oct. 13, 11:02 p.m., when the vehicle’s lighting equipment failed. According to an OSP report, 66-year old Orville David Penicook Jr., attempted to pull off the road onto a shoulder, but the vehicle traveled off the embankment and rolled coming to rest on its top next to the Umpqua River. He was able to walk back up to the road and called for help. Penicook was transported to RiverBend Hospital in Springfield where he was treated for a head injury.
Warrant
According to an entry on the North Bend Police log for Wednesday, Oct. 15, 11:05 a.m., 1800 block Sherman Ave., “RP reports subject that she has a restraining order against is at the library.” Twenty-four year old Hannah E. Tsetsakis, Coos Bay, arrested on NBPD warrant charging Initiating a False Report. Transported to the Coos Co. Jail at Coquille.
