Marshfield’s football season came to an end Friday night during a state playoff Play-in matchup with league opponent Siuslaw, 14-0 at Pete Susick Stadium in Coos Bay. The Pirates finish with a 6-3 record. No. 16 Siuslaw (6-3) moves on to the First Round of the OSAA playoffs and will travel to No. 3 Mazama (8-0) in Klamath Falls Friday night. Also from the 4A Far West League, South Umpqua (7-2) advanced with a 41-0 win at home over Ontario (3-6) Saturday afternoon. FWL champion, and No. 2 in the OSAA Power Rankings, North Bend (8-0) had a bye and will next host No. 18, Greater Oregon League champion La Grande (5-3) on Friday in the first round. Also Friday, No. 9 South Umpqua will play at No. 7 Philomath (7-2).

Marshfield’s volleyball team advanced to the OSAA 4A State Tournament with a 3-1 (25-13, 20-25, 25-13, 26-24) playoff win over visiting Astoria Saturday afternoon in Coos Bay. Junior Hailee Woolsey led the Lady Pirates with 21 kills while junior Carli Clarkson recorded ten. No. 4 Marshfield (22-2) will now face No. 5 Valley Catholic (21-6), of Beaverton, in the first round of the tournament Friday, Nov. 7, 1:15 p.m., at Lane CC in Eugene. Valley Catholic advanced with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-23) playoff win at home over Henley.

Marshfield’s boys finished third and North Bend’s girls fourth at the OSAA State Cross Country Championships Saturday at Lane CC in Eugene. The Pirates placed two runners in the top 10, led by senior Colby Gillett fifth place finish in 16:23 on the 5K course. Teammate Sawyer Heckard, a junior, also made the awards stand by taking tenth in 16:36. Valley Catholic, of Beaverton, won the 4A title with 58 points, Phoenix was second with 95, and Marshfield tallied 114. Pirate results: 20 Dakota Pittullo 17:08; 43 Ian Emlet, 17:42; 65 Cody Harkins 18:29; 67 John Hampton 18:37. Phoenix won the girls’ championship with 57-points, followed by Molalla with 106, Siuslaw 112 and North Bend with 115. The Bulldogs were led by junior Gabby Hobson’s 11th place finish (19:40). She was followed by: 23 Samatha Shook 20:45; 26 Hailey Finnigan 20:50; 36 Janelle Leblanc 21:23; 43 Megan Rutherford 21:40; 61 Kate Riley 22:32; 65 Alyssa Monohon 22:37.

Marshfield’s boys were eliminated from the state 4A playoffs Saturday afternoon at Philomath 5-0. The Pirates finish the season with a 7-8 record.

North Bend’s boys will host Ontario Wednesday, Nov. 5, in the first round of the OSAA 4A state playoffs. The Bulldogs (13-0-1) had a bye from the Play-In round, while Ontario (9-2-1) beat visiting Hidden Valley, 1-0 Saturday to advance. North Bend’s girls beat visiting Seaside (5-6-4) 2-1 on Friday to advance to the First Round of the playoffs. The No. 11 Lady Bulldogs (11-2-1) will play at No.6 (9-4) Henley Tuesday.
