News release from Newport PD. Newport Police Officers responded to a call of a missing 10 year-old male child from the area of Little Creek Apartments at 315 NE 36th St. Officers learned that the child was last seen at about 4:15 p.m. with his sister in the playing area. The sister returned home, reporting that her brother had run off into the woods. The child is known for playing hiding games and not returning home when directed by his parents. When he didn’t return by 6:45 p.m., his parents called Newport Police to alert them that the child had not returned home. Members from the Lincoln County Search and Rescue, Newport Fire Department, Oregon State Police, and the US Coast Guard Air Operations assisted in the search. The search was called off at about 3:00 a.m.; it was scheduled resume at 8:00 a.m. At about 5:45 a.m., the child returned home. He stated he had climbed into a neighbor’s house through an open window, and had been hiding under the bed.
