Struck by a Vehicle?
A 28-year old Winchester Bay male claimed he was struck by a blue mini-van Nov. 19, while hitchhiking on Hwy. 42 about 9:25 a.m. According to an Oregon State Police report, Joseph Charles Long “stated that the van struck him, then stopped and backed up running over his left leg. Evidence of the injury, statements made and evidence at scene were not consistent with him being struck by a vehicle. There is an ongoing investigation.”

Serious accident on Hwy. 42
The two drivers involved in a two-vehicle head-on collision on Hwy. 42, mp 8, Nov. 19, 6:52 p.m., suffered serious injuries and were transported to a hospital. According to an OSP report, the accident occurred when the operator of a westbound vehicle drifted into the opposing lane. “The vehicle entered the eastbound lane sideswiping one vehicle and crashing into another vehicle, head-on. Both vehicles came to an uncontrolled rest blocking both lanes of travel. The drivers involved in the head-on collision were extricated by EMS.” The drivers were identified as 42-year old William John Layton, Coquille, and 70-year old Sidney Merrill Hall. The vehicles involved were a Honda CRV, Honda Accord and Ford F250 Supercab.

Refused to get out
A 30-year old Bandon female had to be forcefully removed from a white Mazda following a traffic stop on Hwy. 101, mp 240, Nov. 23, 1:46 p.m. According to an OSP report, Jennifer Leanna Mallory was stopped for violations and found to be driving uninsured. “When informed that the vehicle was being impounded the operator refused to exit the vehicle, locked the doors and rolled the window up on my hand. After being told she was under arrest for Interfering with Police she called 911. After being admonished to exit the vehicle she again refused. I broke out a window, extracted the operator and placed her in custody.” She was transported to the Coos Co. Jail at Coquille.
