From My Palette a solo exhibition of paintings by North Bend artist Monte Rogers will open at Coos Art Museum on Friday, December 12, 2014 and run through February 28, 2015. A free public opening reception will take place December 12 from 5pm until 7pm and all are invited to attend and meet the artist. Monte Rogers is one of the area’s best known artists and has often exhibited locally winning many awards and honors including prizes at the museum’s Expressions West and Annual Maritime Art Exhibitions. This will however be his first solo-exhibition at Coos Art Museum. A graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California Rogers began his artistic career as an illustrator of books, magazines and advertisements. Following a thirty year commercial art career he decided to devote his attention to painting full time. Rogers’ paintings reflect his western background in both Oregon and California with subjects ranging from rodeos to amusement parks to beaches. His style is influenced by a “plein air” approach of light-filled images rendered in full-intensity paint applied in boldly expressive, unblended strokes of color.
