Oregon and Oregon State’s volleyball teams fell in the round of 16 at the NCAA tournament Friday. The Ducks (23-10) lost to North Carolina in Minneapolis in a four-set defeat, 25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 25-16. The Oregon State Volleyball team (21-13) had their historic season come to an end in Ames, Iowa. No. 1 Stanford (32-1) won 3-1 (25-20, 25-14, 22-25, 25-15).

Oregon State won its first four matches en route to a convincing 31-3 victory over Boise State Saturday night to see the Beavers win the Border War. OSU scored bonus points in just one match – Ronnie Bresser’s 15-6 win over Carson Kuhn at 125 points – but that mattered little as the Beavers claimed nine of the 10 matches, including a forfeit win for Jack Hathaway at 133 pounds. The teams are slated to meet again Feb. 8 in Corvallis.

Oregon State remained undefeated at Gill Coliseum and led wire-to-wire in an impressive 59-49 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon in Corvallis. Junior guard Gary Payton II and junior forward Jarmal Reid had 13 points each to power the Beavers (6-2) to their fifth consecutive home win before an appreciative crowd of 4,211 that included new OSU football coach Gary Andersen, who watched from courtside. The Beavers host Grambling State at 7 p.m. Tuesday in their next game. It will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks.

Dillon Brooks scored 24 points and Oregon beat Illinois 77-70 in men’s collegiate basketball Saturday night in Chicago. Joseph Young scored 15 points and Dwayne Benjamin added 13 for the Ducks, who were playing their first true road game of the season. The Ducks (6-3) host Cal State Northridge on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Matthew Knight Arena.

The Oregon women’s basketball team won its third straight game, defeating Northern Arizona, 59-47, on Saturday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene. The Ducks improved to 5-3 with the win while NAU fell to 4-4. The Ducks return to Matthew Knight Arena on Thursday, Dec. 18, for a 6 p.m. game against Santa Clara.
