Bowerman Trophy
Oregon track and field 800 meter NCAA Champion Laura Roesler was awarded collegiate track and field’s most prestigious honor, Wednesday, bringing home The Bowerman Trophy, awarded by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Roesler, who won 2014 NCAA titles in the 800 both indoors and outdoors and was a member of the collegiate record 4×400 relay team which clinched the Ducks’ fifth-straight indoor championship, beat out fellow finalists Sharika Nelvis (Arkansas State) and Courtney Okolo (Texas). The Fargo, N.D., native is the first woman in Oregon history to win the award and the third overall, joining Olympic medalists Ashton Eaton and Galen Rupp. Roesler is the first female from the Pac-12 to win the award as well as the first athlete of either gender to win with the 800 as their primary event.

Victor Robbins poured in a career-high 27 points and Oregon State matched its best home start in 10 years by crushing DePaul 90-59 at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis Thursday night before a crowd of 3,906. A junior from Compton, Calif., Robbins was 9-of-15 from the field and made all seven of his free throws in establishing a career high for the second game in a row. He set his previous best of 22 against Grambling this past Monday.

Down 14 with less than seven minutes left in regulation, the Oregon women’s basketball team rallied to tie it and then beat Santa Clara in double overtime, 92-88, on Thursday evening before 1,245 in Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene.
