Eden Valley Death, Jan. 8

News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. Narrative: On January 5 at approximately 4:02 PM, the Coos County Sheriff’s office received a report of a logger that was deceased in Eden Valley near Powers. The victim, John Martin, was located approximately 200 yards down into the logging unit. Coworkers located John at around 2:30 PM when he did not arrive at the crummy. John appears to have died of natural causes. The logging operation was being conducted by Grant Creek Logging on Plum Creek property. Logging crew members had to drive to a nearby high location in the mountains so they could obtain cell service for the 911 call. Members of Grant Creek logging, Plum Creek and the Coos County Sheriff’s office worked tirelessly for approximately 2 hours in dark, steep, hazardous conditions to retrieve John from the logging unit.
