Coos County Public Health and Bay Area Rotary Club held a Shots for Tots & Teens clinic on Saturday, February 7th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The final count was 50 kids seen and 91 shots given. In recent years, approximately 20 kids had been seen at a Shots for Tots & Teens clinic with 30-35 shots given per clinic. The last time the numbers were so high was a decade ago when 44 kids were seen and 109 shots administered. Lena Hawtin, Clinic Supervisor and Communicable Disease Coordinator, believes the number of children seen was so high due to parental concern about the measles outbreak and the need to get their children protected against preventable diseases. Many of the kids seen at the Shots for Tots and Teens Clinic had never been vaccinated. It was great to see such a turnout. Many thanks to Bay Area Rotary Club, Bay Area Hospital, Lynda Buford, Stacie McNeill, and Joyce Smith for all your hard work! Shots for Tots & Teens clinics are held twice a year and sponsored by the Rotarians and a grant from Bay Area Hospital. Shots for tots & Teens vouchers are also available throughout the year at Coos County Public Health. The Health Department is also able to see children with Oregon Health Plan and some private insurance. Please, call 541-751-2400 to schedule an appointment. Appointments are available within one working day. The Health Department is located at 1975 McPherson Avenue in North Bend.
