Both North Bend and Marshfield won their home 4A boys’ basketball playoff games Friday night to reach the OSAA State Tournament at Century High School in Hillsboro March 12-14. The No. 1 ranked Bulldogs beat visiting Yamhill-Carlton 60-30, while the No. 4 Pirates bettered Valley Catholic of Beaverton, 48-37. The two Bay Area teams will open the eight-team tourney on Thursday, March 12. North Bend will play No. 9 Cascade at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Pirates and No. 5 Scappoose at 3:15 p.m. The bottom half of the bracket has No. 11 North Marion and No. 3 North Valley, followed by No.10 Madras and No. 2 Philomath. The championship game is set for Liberty High School, also in Hillsboro, on Saturday night, March 14.

Marshfield’s basketball season ended in the first round of the OSAA 4A girl’s state playoffs Saturday night at Gladstone, 53-30. The Far West League was ousted entirely when Mazama won at Brookings-Harbor 53-52 in overtime.

Dayton walked away with two state championships Saturday night at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay. The Pirates won both the girl’s and boy’s state crowns in the championship games of the three-day 2015 OSAA, U.S. Bank, Les Schwab Tires 3A Boys & Girls State Championship. The Dayton girls downed Salem Academy 51-39 in the final, while the Pirate boys dispatched Horizon Christian, Tualatin 53-43. It’s the fifth year the state championships have been held in the Bay Area.
