Bandon High School Student Wins Best of Show at VISION 2015, March 16

Coos Art Museum’s art competition and exhibition for high school students of Southern Oregon – Dayle Bivens, a Bandon High School Junior, took home the ‘Best of Show’ award at VISION 2015, an annual High School art competition underwritten by the Southwestern Oregon Community College Foundation. Bivens’ submission, “Feminism by Definition Is…,” a Watercolor and Ink won her a two-year tuition waiver to attend Southwestern along with a $250 cash-purchase award. Courtney Bay, a Junior from Brookings Harbor High School was awarded ‘1st Place’ for an “Untitled” Acrylic painting. Bay received a two-year tuition waiver to attend Southwestern along with a $100 cash-purchase award. Billie Ray Ward, a Junior from Bandon High School High School, took home the ‘2nd Place’ award for her ink drawing entitled “Continuation of Imagination.” Ward received a $75 cash-purchase award along with a 2-year tuition waiver to attend Southwestern. Seventeen other cash prizes ranging from $50 to $20 were awarded to Grade Division winners, grades 9 through 12. VISION 2015 consists of artwork from 13 southern Oregon high schools. The 104 works of art by 89 students on display in VISION 2015 came from the following high schools in alphabetical order: Bandon, Brookings-Harbor, Butte Falls, Coquille, Douglas, Gold Beach, Illinois Valley (in Cave Junction), Marshfield (in Coos Bay), Myrtle Point, North Bend, Oakland, Pacific (in Port Orford), and Reedsport Community Charter School. Each year the Vision exhibition continues to present the talents of our regional high school art students. VISION 2015 is on display in the upstairs galleries at Coos Art Museum through April 18, 2015. Coos Art Museum has been a cultural focal point of Oregon’s scenic Southern Coast since 1966. It occupies an historic 1936 Art Deco US Federal Building in downtown Coos Bay. The museum offers a wide range of arts activities including exhibitions, art classes, tours and lectures. Hours are 10:00am to 4:00pm, Tuesday through Friday and 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday.
