The Charleston Fisherman’s Memorial Committee has set March 31, 2015 as the deadline for submitting applications to add an eligible person’s name to the Charleston Fisherman’s Memorial at the Charleston Marina. Names may be engraved on one of three plaques – “Lost at Sea, In Memory and Industry” on the memorial after review by members of the memorial committee. The most significant criteria for adding the name of a commercial fisherman is that the person must have fished out of Charleston/Coos Bay area for a minimum of three years. Those with years spent in industry supported business to Charleston fishermen will also be considered for the Industry Plaque. New additions to the plaques on the Charleston Fisherman’s Memorial will be dedicated at the annual Blessing of the Fleet Memorial Service held this year on May 25th, 10 am at the Charleston Memorial site. Applications for the fisherman’s memorial are available at the Charleston Marina Office, 63534 Kingfisher Rd, near the outer basin. To have an application mailed, please contact Margery Whitmer at 541 297-2095.
