Restaurant Inspection Reports are Public Records, April 1

Did you know Coos County Environmental Health inspects every establishment that prepares food for sale to the public? The goal of each inspection is to assure that food handling is safe and to identify sanitation conditions that might lead to food borne illness. Restaurant inspection reports are available for review by the public in Room 235 of the North Bend Annex on Wednesday mornings from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. An appointment may be made for other times by calling 541-751-2431. Reports reflect direction given to the food business leading toward rule compliance for any issues noted during a visit. Unannounced inspections typically occur twice a year. An inspection is a ‘snapshot’ of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection, violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment. Other examples of records available for public review include inspection reports of public pools and overnight lodging facilities are examples.
