A 34-year old Sutherlin man is presumed to have drowned following a canoe capsizing on the Umpqua River near downtown Roseburg Sunday morning. Laughlin was canoeing with 41-year old Daniel Kissinger, also of Sutherlin, when the 15-foot canoe flipped in “Crow Rapids” near the 11000 block of Garden Valley Road. The two were not wearing lifejackets. Kissinger was able to make it to riverbank, but Laughlin disappeared. Searchers found the canoe, a tackle box and a lifejacket, but not Laughlin.
