Southwestern Oregon’s baseball team got a split Saturday at Mt. Hood CC in Gresham. The Saints won the first game 9-0, but the Lakers got the second 4-3. SWOCC (9-7, 12-19) hosts Clark College this coming weekend in Coos Bay. Southwestern’s softball team competed in a Crossover Tournament in Yakima, WA. The Lakers beat Shoreline 7-5 and Douglas 1-0 on Saturday.

Southwestern Oregon Lakers make strong showing at the Southern Oregon University Raider Open.  It was the first home meet for the Raiders in 5 year and the Laker Track Team took advantage of the great weather to win 4 events and take 2nd and 3rd in 11 more. SWOCC had 20 personal bests during the meet. Riley Greenfield started the Lakers off with their first win of the day in the Men’s High Jump clearing 6’ 2”. Brooks Ney improved in both Hurdle races running a NWAC leading 15.09 in the 110 High’s and 54.88 in the 400 IM Hurdles to take over the top spot in the NWAC for that event. Wilson Hodge placed in both the Shot Put at 43’ 3” for 2nd place and 133’ 2” in the Discus for 4th place. On the Women’s side Rachael Huffman continued her improvement in the Throws where she placed first in Shot put with a 41 foot Throw and was 1st in the Discus with a throw of 132 feet. Both marks are leading the NWAC Conference. The Lady Lakers showed a dominance in the Women’s Long Jump taking 3 out of the top 4 places. Talish Dozier was 1st at 17’ 8” with Katie Pitts coming in 2nd at 17’4” and Hannah Smith jumping 17’ ¼” for 4th. Katie Pitts was also 2nd in the Triple Jump at 35’ 5”and Hannah Smith wsa 3rd at 33’ 10”. Laker Head coach Dan Neal said “This is by far the best performance we have had in years. The kids rallied behind their teammates and created an atmosphere for good performances” The Lakers will go to Lane Community College this Thursday where they will face some very stiff competition from the best two year programs and several four year school and the U of O running Club.
