Travis Eckert scattered five hits and two runs over 7 1/3 innings and KJ Harrison drove in three runs to send the Oregon State baseball team to a 5-3 win over Arizona Sunday at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field, in Corvallis. The win sent the Beavers to the series victory over the Wildcats for the third consecutive season and first time at Goss Stadium since 2010. OSU improved to 25-12 overall this season and 8-7 in Pac-12 Conference play, while the Wildcats dropped to 24-13 overall and 9-9 against league foes. Oregon State returns to action Friday when opening a three-game series against USC at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. The teams play at 5:35 p.m. Friday, 1:35 p.m. on Saturday and 1:05 p.m. Sunday.

No. 10 USC scored twice in the first and once in the second and then held off Oregon 7-3 in Pac-12 Conference action on Sunday. Oregon dropped the series to USC and is now 4-5 against ranked teams. The Ducks return to Eugene for a three-game series at PK Park against Washington next weekend. Game times are 7 p.m. Friday, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Sophomore Nikki Udria hit her first career grand slam while Janelle Lindvall tallied four RBIs as well and the No. 1 ranked Oregon softball team took down Stanford, 12-8, on Sunday at Smith Family Stadium in the second game of a three-game series. The Ducks will go for the series sweep at 7 p.m. on Monday against the Cardinal. Pac-12 Networks will carry the game live. The Ducks improved to 37-5 (15-2 Pac-12) with their ninth straight win over Stanford. The Cardinal fell to 16-28 (1-13).

The Oregon State softball team battled hard on Sunday afternoon at Farrington Stadium in Tempe, Ariz., but a seventh-inning run from No. 21 Arizona State gave the Sun Devils a 4-3 win in the final game of the weekend series. Oregon State (24-19, 5-13 Pac-12) out-hit Arizona State (29-16, 7-7) 11-6 in the game, and fought back from 3-0 down to tie the score in the fifth inning before the Sun Devils scored the deciding run in the final frame. The Beavers will return to action this Tuesday, when they play a midweek doubleheader at Portland State.

Former Marshfield athlete Blake Kemp was fourth in the Oregon Relay’s decathlon competition. The junior scored 6,807 points. Dakotah Keys won the event with 7,833, while Mitch Modin was second with 7,578 and Joe Delgado third with 7,281.

On a weekend where the Ducks racked up 18 event wins at Hayward Field during the Oregon Relays, Jenna Prandini carried the torch at the Mt. SAC Relays where she set two school records and posted two world-leading times, Saturday. Prandini highlighted the day by winning the 100 with a wind-legal time of 10.92, breaking the previous school record of 10.96 set by English Gardner in 2013. The Clovis, Calif., native is now tied with Elaine Thompson for the fastest time in the world this season, and now owns the second-fastest time in NCAA history, the best since Dawn Sowell in 1989. Jasmine Todd provided fireworks of her own by winning her heat of the 100 in 11.03 with the wind just over the legal mark at 2.3 m/s. The Ducks will compete in the 121st Penn Relays starting Thursday. Last season, Edward Cheserek led the men’s team to wins in the 4xmile and distance medley relay and was named the Men’s College Athlete of the Meet.
