In support of Red Nose Day 2015, Southwestern Oregon Community College employees, retirees and students donned the playful noses at the annual employee recognition event on May 21st. Red Nose Day is a campaign dedicated to raising money for children and young people living in poverty by simply having fun and making people laugh. The event started in the U.K. 30 years ago. However, the U.S.’s inaugural Red Nose Day was held on May 21, 2015. People across the country came together to have fun and raise funds and awareness. Corporate sponsors included Walgreens and M&Ms. The various charities that will receive these funds include the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, LIFT, United Way, charity: water, Gavi (The Vaccine Alliance), Feeding America, and many more. The latest tally raised during yesterday’s inaugural Red Nose Day USA event was over $10 million and growing, with many SWOCC employees participating and money still being collected across campus.
